Tragic News on Cargo Plane Accident: Fatalities Rises to 13

The number of victims resulting from the transport jet which ignited and went down has reached 13, as confirmed by official announcements.

Mayor's Remarks

Traveling to the Union’s candlelight gathering, I was informed of a 13th person that lost their life as a result of the UPS flight 2976 accident,” stated the local official in a social media post. “My prayers are with the relatives, friends and colleagues of all who were lost in this recent calamity. We will endure this together.”

Deceased Identified

A release from the carrier named the flight crew aboard the McDonnell Douglas MD-11 as Pilot Richard Wartenberg, Co-pilot Lee Truitt, and International Relief Officer Dana Diamond.

“Our thoughts go out to each UPSer who has been affected and all in our local area – assisting you and guaranteeing you get the support and resources you need is our priority,” the organization’s communication stated.

Probe Details

National investigators disclosed that the UPS cargo plane’s port side wing caught fire and an engine detached shortly after departure from the Louisville Muhammad Ali international airport, leading to the jet to plummet and explode into a inferno.

The safety agency announced it is investigating the plane’s upkeep logs, which was in Texas for maintenance weeks before the incident.

Flight tracking records showed the aircraft was on the tarmac in San Antonio, Texas from 3 September to mid-October.

“We are aware that this plane was there in San Antonio,” said an investigator on Thursday, not giving a precise time frame. “We will review all elements of maintenance that was completed, even the Texas period, all the way to the day of the journey.”

Findings of Critical Components

The pilot’s recorder and flight data recorder were retrieved, and the motor was located on the tarmac.

The devices – called data containers – were constructed to survive accident forces and extreme temperatures from fires, and they appeared to be in one piece when discovered amid the wreckage. Officials plan on examining data from the devices.

Jet’s last flight details showed an altitude of 475 feet and a rate of 210 miles per hour before the accident.

Service Record

According to FAA files dated 18 September, a fissure on a component inside the fuel container demanded maintenance.

Singapore-based ST Engineering, which said it provides aircraft servicing for the carrier’s jet and operates a maintenance center in San Antonio, refused to speak, but said it would assist completely when investigators approached it.

Services Restart

In the meantime, UPS Worldport operations resumed last night with its Next Day Air or nighttime operation, official Jim Mayer said. Each of the three landing strips at the aviation hub were also open again.

The distribution hub in this location is the company’s largest. The center hires in excess of twenty thousand people in the locality, manages 300 aircraft per day and sorts in excess of a huge volume of parcels per hour.

Local Reaction

A gathering was held on the evening of 6 November by the area worker’s group, which supports staff at the airfield, the organization’s biggest freight center.

Teamsters Local 89, which represents staff, began the vigil with a period of reflection at the evening hour, the estimated hour of the accident two days earlier.

“This tragedy was so sudden, so unforeseen,” the mayor addressed the group of 200. “No one had a opportunity to part to any of those who we have mourned.”
