Jon Ruben confessed to 17 offences at the judicial center on the end of the week

A person who laced sweets with sedative and gave them to minors at a youth camp in the area has pleaded guilty to sexual offences against two young males who were between nine and ten.

The accused was arrested after eight children and an older person experienced illness at the location in the summer month.

The senior citizen, from the Nottinghamshire area, pleaded guilty to a series of 17 offences when he appeared at the courthouse on the end of the week.

Nevertheless, he refused to admit one of the sexual offences he was accused of, which was concerning a nine-year-old child.

The defendant was held in detention prior to a additional proceeding on late November.

'Treat game'

The legal representative, presenting evidence, outlined the criminal behavior to the court.

She said his victims were disadvantaged youngsters who were participating in a summer camp which he ran.

The defendant conducted a "candy game" with the youngsters, the prosecutor said, in which he would go into the boys' rooms when they were getting ready for bed and request they to ingest treats "as quickly as they can".

She stated to the judge Ruben had conducted this practice with the boys "for many years", and youngsters had previously become sick the following morning.

She stated the defendant had been able to explain this for many years as the children being "overexcited from fun", until his family member had worries in summer 2025.

Mrs Prior KC added: "Recently" his stepson had concerns about the situation, justifiably.

"They decided to have a look in the individual's items."

The legal counsel explained materials including baby oil, Vaseline and injection devices were found, and his stepson alerted the authorities about his suspicions.

She explained the man went on to engage in the "sweet game" with six boys that night - that Saturday - and they were all sick the subsequent day.

"The police had not gone out by that point," she stated further.

The police watchdog, the investigative body, earlier informed that it was reviewing law enforcement's management of the situation.

The prosecutor stated the minors were having difficulty walking due to being ill, so the family member notified the police a second time.

She explained the defendant then engaged in the "candy game" in a space of five children.
